Aquatic Park Rules

The Park District strives to offer a pleasant experience for public swimming. The following rules were established to provide a clean and safe environment. Most pool accidents occur on deck and in the shallow water through simple carelessness, horseplay and running. Please obey all pool rules and lifeguards. They ensure everyone's protection and enjoyment.

Crayfish Canal Lap Pool
      Diving Board Rules
  • All swimmers, age 17 and younger, may be required to pass a swim test before diving. Staff reserves the right to test any swimmer prior to deep water and lap lane use.
  • Only one person allowed on the diving board at a time.
  • Do not double bounce on the diving board.
  • Do not move the fulcrum.
  • Make sure the diving area is clear of swimmers before diving.
  • Wait for the previous diver to reach the ladder before diving.
  • Dive straight off the board, forward facing only. No flips allowed.
  • Do not swim under the diving board.
  • Report any safety hazard to staff.
  • Violation of any of these rules may result in immediate removal from the aquatic park.
 
  Drop Slide Rules
  • Maximum operational load: 1 person; 300 lbs.
  • All swimmers, age 17 and younger, may be required to pass a swim test before sliding. Staff reserves the right to test any swimmer prior to deep water and lap lane use.
  • Only one person allowed on the slide at a time. Single riders only.
  • Riders must be 48 inches tall to use the drop slide. Persons over 42” but under 48” must use a life jacket.
  • Riders must wait for the attendant’s start signal before entering the flume. Obey all instructions by the attendant.
  • Riders must slide down feet first, lying on back with legs crossed at ankles and arms folded across chest. Improper riding may cause injury. Do not uncross legs, attempt to sit up, run, dive, stand, kneel, rotate or stop in the slide.
  • After riding, exit the pool quickly.
  • Metal objects, such as keys, jewelry, watches, eye glasses, snaps or zippers are not allowed on the slide.
  • For safety reasons, pregnant women and persons with heart conditions or back trouble should not ride this slide.
  • Violation of any of these rules may result in immediate removal from the aquatic park.
 
Frog Bog Activity Pool
  Frog Tot Slide Rules
  • A parent or adult must supervise children on the tot slide at all times.
  • Enter the slide using the steps and hand grips. Do not climb on the slide.
  • One child on the slide at a time.
  • Riders must slide down feet first only. Standing, stopping and headfirst sliding are not allowed.
  • After sliding, exit the area quickly.
  • Walk. No horseplay, such as running or pushing allowed.
  • The tot slide is designed for small children and toddlers only. Larger children and adults are not allowed on this slide.
  • Violation of any of these rules may result in immediate removal from the aquatic park.
 
  Salamander Slides Rules
  • Minimum 42" height requirement on all slides. Persons over 42” but under 48” must use a life jacket.
  • Metal objects such as keys, jewelry, watches, eye glasses, metal snaps or zippers are not allowed on the slide.
  • Only one rider to enter the flume at a time.  Never form chains.
  • Riders must wait for the attendant’s start signal before entering the flume.
  • Keep arms and hands inside the flume at all times.
  • Do not run, dive, stand, kneel, rotate or stop in the slide.
  • At the end of the slide, obey all instructions by attendant and exit the pool quickly.
  • Do not block the end of the slide.
  • No swimming allowed in splash down area.
  • For safety reasons, pregnant women and persons with heart conditions or back trouble should not ride this slide.
  • Violation of any of the rules may result in immediate removal from the aquatic park.
 
  Additional Tube Slide Rules
  • Maximum operational load: 2 people, 400 lbs.
  • One rider only per single tube. Two riders only per double tube.
  • Riders must be 48 inches tall to use the drop slide. Persons over 42” but under 48” must use a life jacket.
  • Only one inner tube to enter the flume at a time. Never form chains.
  • Remain seated in your tube facing forward and hold onto the handles at all times.
  • Do not rock, stop or slow the tube throughout the ride. If you accidentally fall from the tube, continue down the flume and exit normally.

Turtle Creek Lazy River Rules
 
  • Riders must be 48 inches tall, or accompanied by an adult, to use the lazy river. Persons over 42” but under 48” must use a life jacket.
  • Enter and exit the lazy rive at designated areas only.
  • Riders must remain in tubes at all times.
  • One rider per single tube; two riders per double tube.
  • Obey all staff instructions. Follow the direction of the current.
  • No horseplay, such as pushing, rocking, hitting, etc. allowed.
  • No swimming, walking or diving allowed.
  • No climbing or sitting on the wall allowed.
  • Only tubes provided may be used in the lazy river.
  • Violation of any of these rules may result in immediate removal from the aquatic park.
 
Dragonfly Den Toddler Wading Pool Rules
 
  • Lounges and chairs must remain 4 feet from the pool edges.
  • A parent or adult must supervise children in the wading pool at all times.
  • Children not toilet trained must wear swim diapers at all times.
  • The wading pool is designed for users under the age of 7. Users in this area must use caution at all times.
  • Users with personal flotation devices must have a parent or adult within arms reach at all times.
  • No food or drink allowed on pool decks. Please use the concession deck only.
  • Water bottles are allowed on pool decks.
  • Violation of any of these rules may result in immediate removal from the aquatic park.
 
General Aquatic Park Rules
 
  • All persons are encouraged to take a shower before entering the pool area.
  • Girls, ages 6 & older, should use the women’s locker room.
  • Boys, ages 6 & older, should use the men’s locker room.
  • Swim suits only, please. The following are NOT appropriate swim attire: sports bras, sports shorts and basketball shorts, cut off jeans, underwear, thong bikinis or suits that are deemed too revealing for a family environment because of transparency, cut, or tightness of fit.
  • Children who are not toilet-trained must wear disposable swim diapers.
  • Please - no spitting, spouting of water or blowing the nose in the water.
  • Do not drink the pool water.
  • Rough play and running are not allowed.
  • Persons violating personal conduct regulations, written or verbal, may be subject to disciplinary action or asked to leave without a refund.
  • Individuals who are prone to experiencing seizures should notify the pool manager.
  • All state and local health laws apply.
  • All patrons are expected to conduct themselves in a safe and appropriate manner at all times. When a person’s safety is jeopardized, staff has the right to take disciplinary action.
  • The use of camera and other picture-taking equipment, including cell phones, is prohibited in the locker rooms.
 
Supervision of Children
 
  • Parents or guardians must be responsible for supervising their children. Lifeguards are on duty to enforce rules and to respond in case of an emergency.
  • Children, ages 10 & under, must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, age 16 or older.
 
Pool Closing Guidelines
 
  • The Park District reserves the right to reduce pool operations or close the pool due to inclement weather, low attendance or low staff. The pool will close if any of the following conditions are present:

    • Inclement weather including strong rain, lightening, tornado, etc. Refunds will not be given for inclement weather.
    • Air temperature is below 65 degrees.
    • Attendance is severely reduced.
    • Posted special events.
    • Health & safety of the general public is endangered.
    • Refunds will not be issued for daily admissions.

 
The following procedures will be taken when the Aquatic Manager decides to close the pool:
 
  • Repeated announcements will be made as to the time Otter Cove will close.
  • A sign indicating Otter Cove will be closing early will be placed at the entrance.
  • Cashiers will notify patrons of the early closing time as they enter the facility.
  • Refunds will not be issued for daily admissions.
