Swim Lessons

General Information for All Swim Lessons
The age requirements for swim lesson programs are: Infants 6-24 months old, Toddlers 2-3 years old, and Beginners 3-5 years old. The teacher-to-student ratio for Beginners is 1:4 and for Swimming Lesson University is 1:6.

During lessons, all parents are asked to sit either in the concession area or outside the fence. Only participants are allowed on the deck during lessons.

Lessons are scheduled Monday-Thursday. If the weather produces thunder or lightning, lessons will be cancelled and made up on Friday. Staff will NOT hold an out-of-water safety day on inclement weather days. For information on cancellations, call the pool at 630-513-4377.

Parent and Child Swim Lessons
Ages 6-24M w/Adult

Early swim lessons set a positive foundation towards a lifetime of participation and enjoyment in a variety of water sports and aquatic venues on, in and under the water. This program requires active, in-water participation of the adult and child. Using songs and activiites, instructors will encourage participants to develop a lifelong enjoyment of water. Skill development is determined by the ability of each child. Class includes group and free-time activities. Children who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper.

Goldfish Club
Ages 3-5

Designed for children transitioning from toddler swim lessons to the beginner lesson program. Preschool-age children will gain basic aquatic safety, water skills and independence. Each lesson highlights a water safety concept through on-deck discussion and in-water skill practice. Instructor/ student ratio is 1:2.

Beginner Swim Lessons
Ages 3-5

Designed for the independent child with good communication skills. Participants are assessed on their basic skill levels and placed accordingly into groups. Skill development ranges from water orientation to stroke readiness. Use of personal flotation devices and water safety are discussed. Instructor/student ratio is 1:4.

Swimming Lesson University
Ages 5-14

Participants will develop swim strokes and water safety skills. Instructors use practical teaching techniques and developmentally-appropriate learning
experiences.

Program Levels and Prerequisites
Swim 100: No Prerequisite

Swim Strokes 200:
Swim 15 feet without a flotation device, face in the water and breathing as needed.

Advanced Swim Strokes 300:
Swim 25 feet of Backstroke and Freestyle with side breathing.

Lifesaving Strokes 400:
Swim 30 feet of Backstroke and Freestyle with side breathing.

Participants will be assessed on the first class for proper skill level perquisites. Level advancement is not automatic and may take several seasons/sessions to progress. Participants will be assigned accordingly to the big or small pool. Instructor/student ratio is 1:6. Program is endorsed by the World Aquatic Babies & Children Network, a nationally-acclaimed, award-winning swim school.

Private Swim Lessons
Ages 3+

Need some one-on-one lessons to improve your swimming skills? On a first-come, first-serve basis, registration begins June 1. Only the participant and instructor are allowed in the water during the lesson. After each lesson, participants must exit the water. You must give 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel a private swim lesson. If no notice is given, you will be charged for the lesson. Requests for specific instructors are accepted, but not guaranteed. Each session includes 4 half-hour lessons.

Longfellow`s WHALE Tales Water Safety
Ages 5-12

Learn safe behavior in, on and around the water. Taught in a classroom setting, WHALE Tales makes water safety fun and easy to learn. Each lesson is reinforced with color posters, worksheets, activities and a video that features Longfellow, the animated whale
